By his own standards and the definition of Fox News Insider, Eric Bolling is a devout Catholic who regularly attends mass and lights candles for his friends. And like the *Catholic Inquisition,?he has a very low tolerance for those who do not believe as he does. He once?kicked an atheist off his Fox Business?show because he thought his guest denigrated Jesus. Of course, Jesuit educated Bolling denigrates President Obama, liberals, Muslims and that's all good; but I digress. But Bolling's bias against atheists is not an anomaly on Fox News - the "fair and balanced" news network that has atheists on the top of its enemies list along with all those groups that do not hew to the orthodoxy of the GOP right wing. This morning, in yet another attempt to smear those evil, Jesus hating atheists, Fox & Friends provided Bolling with yet another opportunity to express his distaste for those godless beings. Torquemada? Torquemada?
In typical fashion, this morning's Fox & Friends picked up on a story being publicized by Fox's "fundamentalist barking dog" Todd Starnes, a gun, Jesus, and barbecue loving and homo hating right winger whose task in life is to root out affronts to Christianity. He also attends gay pride parades where he oogles the leather chaps and thongs; but I digress. The newest affront to Christianity is, OMG, a baseball team that is celebrating "atheist night" in the same manner that they celebrate Christian and Jewish nights. In August, the minor league team, the St. Paul Saints, will be the St. Paul "ain'ts." Not only will the team jerseys have "ain't" on their back but American Atheist Foundation president, David Silverman, who appears on Fox to defend Fox's accusations against atheists, will throw out the first pitch. Starnes, whose article?is sourced on Fox Nation,?says that this is "bashing" the Christian faith. So not surprisingly, the fundamentalist braying jack asses on Fox & Friends took up the cross in a casual discussion during which the Fox patented "we think atheists suck" message was advanced.
Uber Christian Steve Doocy reported the back story while the chyron read "Foul Ball or Fair Game Minor League Team Holds Atheist Day." As he spoke, Bolling made some unintelligible noise in the background and fellow uber Christian Gretchen Carlson laughed in a?not so happy way. In introducing a quote from a Minnesota atheist, her voice dripped with venom as she said his name. As she read the part of the quote about how "ain't" was a word "that everybody could relate to" and we ain't got a belief in God," she sounded sad.
This was the cue for Bolling's righteous rant. As he started, Gretchen laughed and did happy Gretch face. Bolling loudly brayed: "And you ain't got to go to that ball park and you ain't gotta, you know what you can do, you can pray for rain that day which all of us good Christians will be praying for rain. Come on, really, baseball, American, all American, apple pie STAY OUT OF THE BALLPARK. Don't bring the religion into the ballpark, let these people have a good time..." He joked that the "ain't's" was a scab team and that was funny but "this, not so funny for me." Gretchen's happy face disappeared when she read a atheist's blog comment about how the seventh inning stretch would include singing of "dog bless America." She harrumphed and said "that might be taking it a little too far."
Bollling, who cited "American" traditions," doesn't seem to realize that this country was founded on the idea that people would be free to worship or not worship as they please. But obviously the idea of tolerance is somehow alien, and possibly threatening, to the "devout Catholic" Bolling who thinks that the only?good American is a god worshipping one.?It's all a matter of faith and while Bolling?is free to believe as he does,?he doesn't have the same respect for those whose world view is different. He actually thinks that the presence of atheists, at a ball game, interferes with the "good time" had by others? His hatred is so intense that he's wishing rain on the day of the game. Can you imagine his indignation if Bill Maher did the same for some Catholic activity? Oh well, he goes to mass and lights candles so his soul must be so spotless. Ya think!
And memo to Bolling - if you don't like atheists, don't go to the game!
