Synergia fundraiser for poets to attend spoken word festival in Africa

On October 8, 2011, painters, poets and jazz musicians of Trinidad and Tobago will once more entertain audiences at Synergia. This time however the stage and the cause will be bigger. Not only will the event take place at the National Academy for the Performing Arts (NAPA), the show will raise funds to help local artistes take part in the International Spoken Word Festival in Nairobi, Kenya. Entitled ?Synergia: a Fusion of Art, Jazz and Poetry ? The Fundraiser?, the event is geared towards enabling our Trinbagonian spoken word performers to show their talent at the festival scheduled for October 19 and 20. Event organisers Rachael Collymore and Poetic Vibes have brought together a cross-section of artistes to ensure that patrons of Synergia enjoy the show.

?This event focuses on the power of words and showcases local talents in spoken word, art and music,? explained Rachael. ?It is about using words as change agents. Whether it means hosting shows like Synergia or working to raise funds so that our artistes can perform internationally, our goal is to make sure their voices are heard.?

Synergia Performance

The list of performers for Synergia includes featured spoken word artistes, Brendon and Brandon O?Brien, and Leel Bain; storyteller, Theodora Ulerie (Aunty Thea) and visual artist, Fitzroy Hoyte. The roster of musicians that will take part in the show include.?Guest artistes include: Nisa Nora (vocalist), Keegan Maharaj (spoken word), Janique Dennis (spoken word) and Kepha Yahseph (vocalist) among many others.

Synergia: a Fusion of Art, Jazz and Poetry ? The Fundraiser, will be held on October 8 at the Academy of the Performing Arts Theatre, Prince?s Building Grounds, Port of Spain.
